Sarah Toulmin

Rev. Miles Toulmin is the Executive Director of Alpha of Alpha Asia Pacific and Vicar of Holy Trinity Bukit Bintang (HTBB), the church that is the home of the Alpha Asia Pacific Hub in Kuala Lumpur. He is married to Sarah and together with their three children, they moved to Malaysia in 2014 to plant HTBB.

As for Sarah Toulmin, her career included teaching, publicity, and missionary work in India, Uganda, and South Africa. She has authored a few baby Bible and prayer books too!

In this session, Rev. Miles and Sarah will speak about taboo topics such as cohabitation, sex life, and the perils of parenthood.

Rev. Abel Cheah and
Dss. Jacintha

Rev. Abel Cheah and Dss. Jacintha Tagal are pastors in Holy Trinity Bukit Bintang (HTBB) Church. Abel is the Associate Vicar at HTBB as well as the Leadership Development Director of the Alpha Asia Pacific Hub, while Jacintha heads up Operations and Church Planting initiatives.

Prior to joining the team at HTBB, Abel’s previous roles include being the COO of Alpha Asia Pacific, National Coordinator of Alpha Malaysia, and Head of Regions for Teach for Malaysia. Whereas Jacintha’s previous roles were in education, from theological education (as Head of Operations for St Paul’s Theological College Malaysia), to private education, and teaching through the Teach for Malaysia programme. Abel and Jacintha have a son, Levi.

His book ‘Heart to Heart with Asian Leaders’  is John’s insightful and intimate conversations with Asia’s top leaders.

Chee Chow

Cheng Tim Kee and Chee Chow have been married for 37 years. Together they have two children, Joel and Rebekah. In 2014, they came with the HTB London core team to plant Holy Trinity Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. They are the coordinators for the Family Life Courses at HTBB and lead and help mentor future leaders in The Marriage, Pre-Marriage, and Parenting Courses.

Ai Siang

Foo Lai Wei and Ai Siang are the Regional Development Directors and they lead The Marriage and Parenting Courses in Alpha Asia Pacific. They are married for 37 years  this December and have 2 adult married sons. They have been serving together in blessing families first in Malaysia then ASEAN and now across Asia Pacific for the past 15 years.

Pr. Matthew Ling

Pastor Matthew Ling currently provides global leadership to the WEA Family Challenge of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA). He was the Senior Pastor at Calvary Family Church in Malaysia for 20 years before stepping down at the end of 2013 to focus fully on serving churches in developing effective family discipleship ministry. A Certified Family Life Educator and a professional member of the National Council of Family Relations (U.S.), he is also a licensed trainer with the Family Friendly Partners Network ministry of Michigan, U.S.A.

Married to Rose for over 44 years, they have two married sons and are grandparents to one granddaughter.

Rev. Lydia Chan

Rev. Lydia Chan and her spouse, Rev. Isaac Chan, have pastored together for 11 years in Johor Bahru and 34 years in Penang Christian Centre. A loving and fun person to be with, she is very passionate about teaching and releasing the next generation to fulfil their God-given role and potential. She has over 40 years of experience in working directly with children, youth and families. She is currently the National Children’s Ministry Director of the Assemblies of God of Malaysia.

Dr. Joanna Mah

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Dr. Joanna Mah specialises in child and family development, clinical therapy consultancy, challenging behaviour management, inclusion support, and disability accommodations since 2011. As an experienced facilitator, she runs corporate workshops, specialists training, and family workshops on child development, behaviour management, family support, and inclusive communities.

In 2022, Alpha Malaysia surveyed 1,294 Malaysians (ages 16 – 76) residing in Malaysia across different races, languages, and faith to understand the struggles found in the stages of life prior to marriage, within marriages, and parenthood.

This report covers topics such as:

  • Issues and challenges people are facing in respective stages of family life
  • Navigating through stages of pre-marriage, marriage, and parenthood for different faith groups
  • The role of Christian leaders and institutions in addressing needs, desires, and setbacks
