On June 29, we organised Unity in Diversity at Church of Praise, JB, where we trained over 180 people from 26 different churches, across 4 different languages - English, Mandarin, BM, Tamil.
The aim of the event was to inspire and equip young people to share about Jesus with their friends by running Alpha in their youth groups, schools or universities. It was also our first time having a quad-lingual gathering such as this.
The event started off with a dynamic opening dance by the Alpha Malaysia staff and volunteers team, featuring various Malaysian cultural dances. For the rest of the time, the delegates were put into two different tracks: Track 1 was for those who had never run Alpha, while Track 2 was for those who were already running Alpha.
Delegates in Track 1 had the opportunity to learn about the essentials of Alpha and the dynamics within an Alpha small group, while in Track 2, delegates got to exchange ideas/tips gathered from their own experiences and learn about the seven best practices of running an Alpha.
One of the highlights of the day was the “Heart of Evangelism” panel session by Rebecca Lo and Pastor Allan Kong. Both parties shared inspiring stories about how Alpha is working effectively in their own contexts and how they have seen lives being transformed by Jesus through it. “Nothing compares to being able to witness a loved one decide to follow Jesus,” said Rebecca.
Through this event, we hope that all delegates were encouraged and challenged to have a heart for evangelism, wherever they are placed.
