On October 13-14, the Alpha for Youth & Campus Conference, GLOW was held at Excel Point Community Church (EPCC), Penang. More than 130 young people from over 20 churches came to attend, including delegates who came all the way from India and Indonesia.
The event was designed to inspire and equip young leaders to share the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ in a fresh and imaginative way. This year, an all new "Specialist Class" segment was added, where delegates could either choose to attend the "Gen-Now: Building a Dynamic Youth Ministry" session or the "Media & Design" session. We were extremely honoured to have Ps Jonathan Ngan (SIBKL) and Ps Joel Burden (Hope City KL), to lead the specialist classes as well as speak during the conference plenary sessions.
On Friday night, the event started off with a phenomenal DJ-ing opening act by Aaron (Alpha for Youth/Campus Coordinator) and a flashmob by the Alpha Youth/Campus Coaches. The brand new Alpha Youth Series was also launched for the very first time in Malaysia on the same night! The rest of the conference was filled with a variety of programmes comprising of sessions on how to run Alpha, learning each other's best practices; fun games and an interview with Wini Heron, National Director of Alpha Malaysia and Abel Cheah, National Coordinator of Alpha Malaysia.
One of the highlights of the conference was "The Coconut & Banana Show" hosted by Paul and Aaron of the Alpha for Youth/Campus team. It featured an epic game of "Human Tic-Tac-Toe" and a dance battle between Wini and Ps Joel.
The conference concluded with a challenge for all the participants, where they were asked to write the names of friends they wanted to pray for on a balloon, pass them around in the air, pick one randomly and commit to praying for the names written on it for the next 6 months.
It is our continued hope to see young people across Malaysia, encouraged and empowered to live their lives for Jesus and to make him known in their generation.
