Alpha Workplace conference in its 6th year, was held in Penang from 8th to 10th September. The event was packed with 604 enthusiastic participants from 116 churches, representing more than 295 companies gathering in the brand new IMPACT building of Georgetown Baptist Church. We also had friends from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Australia who came as participants.
We were in for a fruitful time of learning, praying together, strategising, being equipped with tools and being envisioned to reach the workplace with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There were over 20 speakers speaking from the perspectives of their experience in reaching out in specific industries. One of the main themes this year would be the model and strategy on church planting as well as bi-vocational ministry, where Bishop Ric Thorpe from the UK and Ps Dr Philip Lyn shared passionately about their insights on those aspects.
We are glad that the objective of Alpha Workplace Conference has been met, namely to equip and envision workplace believers to reach out in their workplace. One of the delegates commented:
"I will never see Business, Constructions and Public Services the same again! These are areas that the public view as corrupt where one must have a great level of integrity to deal with the nature of corruption. But after hearing the testimonies from the speakers, I now truly believe that faith could overcome the temptation - like David defeating Goliath!"
Post conference, we have seen 62 groups and individuals commit themselves to start Alpha for Workplace around the country.
